Carbon Tax on Home Heating Fuel

Carbon Tax has added €46 on 1000 litres of heating oil or €31 on 10,000 kWh of Natural Gas as of the 1st of May 2010.

Home heating oil prices have risen by over 50% in the past twelve months.
A further carbon tax of 10% for peat and 11% for coal is to be introduced later in the year.

The objective of the carbon tax is to encourage people to reduce their dependence on carbon based fuels.
We can reduce our heating fuel consumption by:

• Switching to carbon free or carbon neutral fuels.
• Improving insulation
• Reducing the temperature of your heating system by one or two degrees.
• Installing solar water heating systems.
• "Installing more efficient heating controls.
